Did you think to pray?

I am fortunate to have music in my life. There are few things that provide me with such comfort. Often when I need it, the words of a familair hymn will slip into my mind. As we approach a new school year, there is much anxiety at my house... particularly in that of my ADHD 5 year old. This is very trying for me and I struggle with finding the patience I need to handle him on some days. One day last week, he'd been hitting and kicking and screaming and furniture leaping for several hours. And I'd yelled and screamed, and sent him to his room, and even thought of just sticking him in the backyard (yikes). Then, these words penetrated my thoughts:

Oh, how praying rests the weary!

Prayer will change the night to day.

So, when life gets dark and dreary,

Don't forget to pray.

I wonder, do moms pray throughout their day as often as they need to? I will sometimes vent to a friend before even thinking of praying for patience. And if you think about it, there are fewer situations that require more companionship from the Lord than motherhood. Somehow, though, we feel we need to suffer it alone. We just need to be stronger and try harder. Asking for help is a sign of weakness. That is not so!

So that's my gentle reminder for today. Pray. "Yea, humble yourselves, and continue in prayer unto him. Cry unto him in your houses, yea, over all your household, both morning, mid-day, and evening." (Alma 34: 19, 21)

More about this award: It is for "those bloggers who are nice people; good blog friends & those who inspire good feelings and inspiration. Also for those who are a positive influence on our blogging world. Once you've been awarded please pass it on to 7 others who you feel are deserving of this award."

Such a poignant reminder...we as mothers need to call on the Lord daily. You are so right...if ever there was a role in life that required consistent prayer, it is that of motherhood.

And thank you for visiting my reunion weekend post today...:)

Blessings!

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED this post. Thanks for the reminder. Prayer should not be a "check it off the list" thing. Isn't it wonderful we are never alone and there is always someone there to listen to us.

Loved your 5 things.

You mean I'm NOT on speed type yet??? Sheesh! Some friend...

Just kidding.

Thanks for the great reminder of the importance of praying over our day. I need lots of reminders of lots of things these days.

Thank you for reminding us. I don't think we can ever be reminded enough about the need to pray. Especially as Mothers. I know that, too often, I'm guilty of just trying to muddle through my day on my own strength. Isn't it wonderful to know that prayer is available to us all day long-not just the morning or evening?

Motherhood definitely requires the constant companionship of the Lord. Next time I am going crazy I will remember to pray before I vent. Thanks for the gentle reminder.

While reading your 5 meme, I realized we have even more in common than I thought. I just had wheat thins and Tillamook cheese last night as a little snack :) !! I want to try those Oreo cakesters, but I really don't need any more pesky pounds attaching themselves to me.

You deserve the nice award ... congrats!

Music is a huge factor in my life as well, especially the hymns. I had to play the hymns for our branch when I was 12 years old. I started with plucking the melody out with one finger to playing anything from the hymn book in one year. The hymns became my very good friends and still are. Words and phrases pop into my head to give me mini gospel lessons throughout the day. Thanks for the award, I shall pass it along when I'm done with my vacation - aka being spoiled by my parents!

That's good stuff. I was sent here by Lucy at Life is a Spasm and so glad I came.

I get a little stressed out when I think of how unqualified I am to raise these oh so cool kids. It's good to be reminded I'm not doing it alone.

Thanks for the reminder. I feel like I'd be such a better mother if I remembered to pray and keep Heavenly Father more actively involved in my daily tasks of mothering.

Hi Lei-it's been a while! Your site looks terrific.

Thanks for the great reminder-I too at the end of a long day sometimes wonder at why I didn't take the time to pray.

Praying continually, and always having a prayer in my heart is one thing I've been trying to focus on. Thanks for the reminder.

We must be about the same age...I know all the lyrics to all the songs you listed except the one from La Boheme.

As for the other sections...wow! Like reading my own...except I have a Nikon D40.

Do I pray? Everyday! I, too, have a son (9) diganosed with "Severe" ADHD...you and I probably pray for the same things! Is he entering public school this year? I have a wealth of information to share if you need help with the school and things like IEPs and ARDs...and I'm right down the road in San Antonio and am in Austin all the time...just there on Tuesday, actually. Let me know if you need anything!
