Wild Card Wednesday

Today I am answering Rachelle's call for the words discombobulated, percolate, loquacious, tawdry, facetious, and effervescence all in the same post. They surprisingly describe my mood level quite well these days.

And you all thought you were gonna get a break from the whining. Ha!

I am most definitely feeling the discombobulation. I'm not sure about my center of gravity, much less center of emotional, mental or spiritual stability right now. Common in the final weeks of pregnancy, no? (I can't be sure because 38 1/2 weeks is a record for me.) If I am not careful, this disconcertedness percolates everything I do and say! For example, screaming, "Stop screaming!" at my children. :) And then looking around the room like "Where did that come from?" "Who said that? How rude!" (Angel wings flapping away.)

I have well meaning frends and family calling daily to see if "she's here yet". Just in case I, you know, forgot to tell anyone. I try my hardest to meet their loquaciousness halfway, but it's hard to find the words with each and every inquiry. And it would be tawdry of course to say, "I really don't want to talk about it!" Perhaps I could just shut them up with "Hey, you wanna catch a movie? I need to celebrate making it past full term!" The Devil Wears Prada, licorice and a massive diet coke is looking very tempting.

Yes, it has been difficult connecting with my better known facetiousness right now; to find any humor in these circumstances of a baby who suddenly won't budge after every effort was made to keep her from doing so too early. To feel the music. But the effervescence will no doubt return with my waistline.

Just you wait... you won't be able to shut me up, then! :)

Oh, the well-meaning friends and relatives! I know them well. Along with all the people at church who say "I didn't expect to see you this week." Yah. I was kind of hoping the same thing :)

If you really get tired of fielding those annoying (um, I mean well-meaning) phone calls, you could always change your answering machine message to include "No baby news yet" and then screen your phone calls. Not that I would ever do a thing like that :) I would only swear to not attend church after my Thursday due date passed because I didn't want to deal with all the obvious questions (Wow, you're still "with child?" Yes. Yes, I am.) Luckily, #2 decided to be born in the wee-hours of Sunday morning to save me from "skipping." May Sasha be so accomodating!!

Masterfully executed word usage, Lei.

I guess I won't track down your phone number tomorrow to see if you're still around.

Um...yay for record breaking pregnancies? If you'd like to try to laugh yourself into labor, I could email you that picture of me pregnant....or the one of my visibly excited date. LMK!

Impressive word usage!

"Are you still pregnant?" questions should be banished in favor of, "How are you feeling?" That way you would get all the extra whining opportunities you deserve at the end. Whine away girl!

Yes Nettie, they should be substituted. ALL women after 37 weeks should get a "free whining pass".

We finally did what Jessica suggested and put it on the machine and then had the machine pick up on two rings. It was such a lifesaver. Then before we left to the hospital, we put a message that said I was in labor and we would be unavaliable for the next several days and then changed it again with her birth information. It was so nice to have a machine do the work for us, impersonal, yes. But well worth the rest that I received. (I returned all of the calls when she was about a week old.)

Oh Lei, hang in there. Any moment now! I know it. Sorry about the nagging. I am proud of you for making it so far. She is just stubborn!! :)

I'm always late with my children, so it's always foreign to me to hear of moms delivering before 40 weeks, since for me 40 weeks comes and then 40 weeks goes. I'm glad Sasha will be born full-term, even though it has been hard on you. I know the feeling of waiting!!!...And the well-meaning questions and inquiries :-)

In my final week of pregnancy, my mum called me 4 times to ask if something was happening! I was ready to scream down the phone!!!

OH I'm with nettie.... the "Haven't you had that baby yet!" question makes me question my own sanity. What exactly is the right answer to that???
"Um.. yes-thanks for noticing?"

It has to come out sometime.

Wow! Your high school English teacher would be so proud. Hasn't she called yet to see if the baby has come out? ;)

"COME OUT BABY!!" I hope that helped. I love that picture of you below. It looks very familiar.

I love the answering machine idea, and I always skipped church when I got close to the time. By that time, no one wanted to be around me anyway. I say stay home tomorrow and drink milkshakes.

Your post made my brain tired. :) There's a reason one-syllable words were invented!
