One more reason to get my husband to start exercising again....

... is not only to increase his energy and fend off a family history of cancer, but so he doesn't feel the way he did the first time I asked him to run to the store and buy me tampons. (Ah, remember the good old days?) Since I began training for a half marathon our grocery lists have begun to look more like spelling tests and riddles. I recently had "sports beans" on there and he came home with bean sprouts. "Honey, it just didn't make any sense!" he tells me, bewildered, holding the grocery list inches from his nose, squinting as if to will the letters into their proper place. Poor guy, the look on his face told me that I have gotten upset with him one too many times for bringing home the wrong thing. But this time it wasn't the wrong kind of apples or brand of detergent (clearly labelled and perfectly legible if I may add). As I took in the genuine look of confusion on his face, I actually understood and even sympathized with where he was coming from, and then began brainstorming ways of disguising bean sprouts in that night's dinner.

I love bean sprouts! I usually boil them for 5-8 minutes, strain them, and then mix in sesame oil and red pepper powder. DELICIOUS!!!

Would it have been easier/better to try and put the sports beans in the dinner??? (I never knew there was such a thing ; )

eleven years of marriage has finally softened my husband enough that he will go to the grocery store for me if i need a couple of things-- or maybe it's just the high gas prices and his desire to combine errands. he used to unilaterally refuse grocery store trips.
how does he avoid bringing home the wrong thing? by phoning me no less than 37 times from the grocery aisles to make sure he's got just the right item. by the time he's home, i wish that i'd gone instead!:)

I love bean sprout in a good sandwich. I can picture that face of confusion.

Yes, Jelly Belly makes them but they are specially formulated to replace your glycogen stores (which get depleted quickly when you are running long distances).

Hmmm...I think I may have been confused too. Never heard of sports beans! :)

Good luck with the marathon training....I'm impressed.

Too funny. I didn't know what sports beans were either. Look how much I learn!

I would have brought home a bag of bean sprouts too. They probably taste better anyway. :)

My dh doesn't mind going to the store. He always comes home with Oreos.
