How's the Halloween decor shaping up for you?

Hope you all aren't as conflicted as I am over what to make next, and where to put it.  As the years have passed I've gotten more and more into holiday decorating.  There was a time however that I wondered what the big deal was.  For the love!

I cannot walk into Hobby Lobby without feeling inundated, INUNDATED I tell you, with ideas.  I think I need therapy to rid my head of the creative voices competing for my attention.

At any rate, I have some fun stuff to show ya.  Courtesy of their 50% off Halloween sale, I finished this little vignette in my kitchen last night.  Love this pumpkin vine and folk artsy bowl there now.

I also added the fabulous BOO printable I told you guys about from The Graphics Fairy.  It's attached with magnets to an old washboard that's been in my family for years.  Uh huh.  It's the real deal.  My great, great, great and maybe even greater grandmother actually used that thing!

Also.  That black and white gingham pumpkin?  $1 aisle makeover!!!  I found it at Target with some hideous red plaid fabric tied around the top.  Took that off and added ribbon and this darling zinc tag (which says Fall by the way, it kind of looks like it says Fail, lol).  Wish I'd taken a before picture so you could see the difference... I thought I might find one on google images (I'd seen another random blogger makeover the same $1 fabric pumpkin), but google just brought me back to my own blog!  Go figure.

So how are things shaping up at your house?  Do you need an intervention too? ;)

Lots more Halloween to come, I'm afraid (bwahahahahahaha)!

zipper bracelet

Well the trend may have passed in blogland, but it hasn't gone out of style.  So yes, I finally made myself a zipper bracelet (inspired by Linda).  Finally.  Materials for this project have been sitting in my design room for, oh, about 6 months.  Yeesh.  Anyway.  Here's what you need to replicate this funky bracelet!

old bangle(s)
quilt binding or bias tape (or even a strip of fabric!)
tulle
heavy weight jacket zipper
embellishment for center of zipper flower (I used a pearl)
hot glue

First, cover your bangle(s) with the binding/tape/fabric.  This is exactly what I used:

What you use depends on the look you want.  The binding/tape has finished edges you won't have to worry about... the binding is thicker than the tape though.  Fabric with a freying edge is fun too, though.  And I say bangle(s) because you can get away with wrapping 2 thinner ones together if you want... that was what I had so that is what I used!  You know - make it do, use it up... whatever.  Or you can do a few bangles like the lovely Linda.  Anyway, wrap, and wrap, and wrap some more, around your bracelet(s)... use dabs of hot glue to secure as you go.

Then form your zipper flower.  Start on the inside, roll the edge a couple times like a cinnamon roll, and secure with a dab of hot glue.  Then wind around and around and continue to hot glue as you go, into a spiral shape.

Once completed glue onto some felt and then trim the felt down around the edges so that it isn't sticking out around your flower.  The felt will give you a flat backing to attach your flower with.

I added 2 leaves made from tulle to the outside of my flower.  I cut about a 4 in. strip (black) and folded it in half (2 of them, one for each leaf).  SO they looked like loops when I hot glued them down.  I glued them to the bracelet first, and the zipper flower on top/in between-ish (leave about a half inch space between your two "leaves".

Final touch?  A pearl in the center of my flower.

Voila!

Matches my fun shirt from Charming Charlie's quite nicely, don't you think?

Enjoy!

Fixed!

Remember my niche in THIS post? I took one look at this picture and thought, "Boy, that looks bare."  I even said so in my post.

Well, I fixed it! Added  more great clip art from The Graphics Fairy.  Black raffia to my tin pumpkin (love black raffia this time of year!).  A few additional candles.  Some fun duct tape (yes that is damask printed duct tape) around the gray ones.

This morning I even threw in a few vinyl bats under the picture collage (not shown here).

Better, huh? And I apologize for the quality of the "after" picture. I took it last night and used , GASP, a flash. Lol. Not even worthy of my watermark, I'm afraid.

Have a great weekend everyone! I'm off for a couple days for a girls weekend. :)
